Ricardo Montalban Dies – Goodbye Khan
Ricardo Montalban dies. Sadly, another great actor has taken his final bow this week. Ricardo Montalban, the Mexican-born actor who became a star in splashy MGM musicals and later as the wish-fulfilling Mr. Roarke in TV’s “Fantasy Island,” died Wednesday morning at his home, his family said. He was 88. There’s more of this report at MSNBC.
Ricardo Montalban had a huge entertainment career spanning his start in Mexican movies, Hollywood in 1946 and through to the magic of television.
To the younger generation Ricardo Montalban will be remembered for his TV role as that bloke in the white suit, (Mr. Roarke), on Fantasy Island. But for me, and a slightly older generation he will be remembered as Khan – one of Capt Kirk’s greatest enemies in Star Trek. Khan appeared in the TV Series as well as the second Star Trek movie Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
From Trek Today:
Montalban appeared in the Original Series episode “Space Seed” as Khan Noonien Singh, a genetically enhanced human who ruled much of Earth as a dictator during the Eugenics Wars. The role proved to be so popular that Montalban returned to play the main villain in the second theatrical Trek film, The Wrath of Khan.
What a guy. What a great Star Trek villian.
