Back to my story. So, how did I become the victim of credit card fraud? I opened up my credit card statement this morning to find three transactions I knew nothing about. On three different days in May, there had been top-ups to mobile phones for £20, £30 and £20 – a total of £70 – using my credit card!?!
The credit card company put me through to their fraud department straight away. Within a matter of seconds they told me that they were canceling my card and reimbursing me the £70 of the fraudulent top-up purchases.
These credit card fraudsters could have got my number from anywhere. There are even credit card villains who use random number generators to bring up 16 digit credit card numbers – and then try them out at various places where the customer does not have to be present, such as topping up a mobile phone through the phone. Equally, these credit card gangsters also try to use your card number where the security pin number on the back is not needed, (as they might have got your number without knowing that security code).
Credit Card Fraud. Fraud committed on your credit card. It’s a crime. Credit card fraud is a crime. Please don’t do it, it’s not very pleasant having to deal with it. I had to chase around all the places that have Direct Debit payments off the card, all the internet websites etc that take auto subscriptions/renewals off the card, and make sure nothing gets cancelled until the new card details are available.
