U2 – Sexy Boots – Get On Your Boots. Am I the only one who thinks that the new U2 single “Sexy Boots/Get On Your Boots” has several riffs nicked from “Pump It Up” by Elvis Costello and the Attractions? You decide:

I think there’s something very similar there!

Not by a long mark-and try to do the sweetest thing video with Elvis singing ‘the greatest thing’ from Punch the Clock-like the Pink Floyd/Over the Rainbow deal. And Bono is dressed as Elv in the vid.

      2. Paul says:

        Peter – hi.

I thought for a minute you were disagreeing with me… and then you show the comparison between Sweetest Thing/Greatest Thing selections.

So, are you saying that my example just wasn’t as “bad”/”good” as your example?

But in the end – it’s still a bit of a rip -off isn’t it, eh?

      3. Sal says:

Absolutely. The first time I heard Sexy Boots, I thought–who’d they rip this riff off of. Then a light bulb went off and I knew it was EC.

      4. Paul says:

I totally agree Sal. When I heard it on the radio driving home one evening I kept running the EC track through my head, (whilst concentrating on driving, of course!), until “Pump It Up” jumped out at me.

It wasn’t until AFTER I blogged about this did I find that I wasn’t the only one who thought this was a rip-off!

        Paul
